Aims and Objectives

AIMS
To provide support and assistance to men, women and children affected by HIV/AIDS in Bedfordshire and surrounding areas, in order to combat isolation, fear and stigma, enhance self esteem and quality of life and improve uptake of services.

OBJECTIVES

  • To provide a safe supportive environment for men and women to discuss issues affecting them.
  • To provide peer support through trained positive volunteers.
  • To provide appropriate information on a range of issues related to HIV/AIDS.
  • To work in partnership with other specialised services and stakeholder e.g social services, Primary Care Trusts, Hospitals, Citizen Advice Beareu, Law Centre and others to improve services and to increase access to people living with HIV/AIDS.
  • To provide advice sessions on health i.e. treatments, adherence, pregnancy, safer sex and general sexual health.
  • To provide training and workshops to clients and volunteers to enhance life skills and opportunities.
  • To provide trained positive speakers as trainers in health promotion for HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention.
  • To provide a safe and supportive environment for children affected by HIV/AIDS through a specialised children's service; e.g. activities aimed at giving respite to child carers, and to provide a forum for children to link with other children and to play.
  • To provide a social network through social events, e.g. outings, community gatherings etc.
  • To provide an outreach service.
  • To encourage and provide volunteering opportunities.
